About the Specialist Centre Ballarat
The Specialist Centre was established in 2004 by Mr Bruce Stewart and Dr Maree Pekin, who identified the potential benefits to patients of having both medical and surgical specialist expertise for the management of bowel conditions in the one location. Since then, the practice has grown through the recruitment of like-minded specialists, who have built on the existing foundations of excellence to set us apart as the largest team of specialists in the region.
Location & Facilities
Consultations are undertaken in our rooms at 108 Drummond Street North, directly opposite St John of God Hospital in central Ballarat. Ballarat Base Hospital is just next door, meaning all our Specialists are able to efficiently move between our consulting rooms, operating theatres, endoscopy suites, or emergency departments to offer proficient and collaborative care to private and public patients within the health hub in central Ballarat.
Our dedicated procedure room allows our specialists to perform minor procedures on-site in the rooms. Biopsy and excision of skin lesions is also performed under local anaesthetic in the procedure room. Our sub-specialist colorectal surgeons offer anorectal physiology testing with both endoanal ultrasound and anal manometry. Capsule endoscopy is also offered through our rooms.
Our regional focus across Western Victoria and South Australia
Our Specialists also perform procedures at Ballarat Day Procedure Unit and regional hospitals including:
