Dietitian Services
What is a Dietitian and what will they do for me?
Dietitians are qualified and regulated health professionals that assess, diagnose and treat nutritional problems.
At Specialist Centre Ballarat, your dietitian will first assess the nutritional adequacy of your diet and your nutritional status before formulating a plan with an aim to help you manage your disease and/or symptoms. The advice provided will be evidence based and translated to your personal circumstances.
Referrals
At Specialist Centre the dietitian works closely with the medical team who often make referrals. Referrals are also welcomed from GPs. A doctor’s referral is preferred but not necessary.
Before your initial appointment please fill in a Patient Registration Form.
Appointments
Face to face and Telehealth appointments are available. An initial appointment is 45-60 minutes and a follow up is 30 minutes. Medicare rebates may be available if you have a referral from your GP and a care plan in place. You will need to bring a copy of this care plan to your appointment if it has not already been provided.
Private Health Cover
Most health funds typically provide rebates for dietary consultations. We suggest you contact your insurer directly as these vary depending on the Health fund and level of cover.
